TGWA is excited to announce the hiring of Roberto “Bobby” A. Bazan Jr. as its new Executive Director, effective January 3, 2023. Bobby is currently the Water Resource Management Specialist at the Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation District, where he has worked to manage a monitoring well network, analyze groundwater data, and engage in outreach and education related to water wells and aquifers for nearly a decade. Prior to his time at the groundwater district, Bobby worked as a hydrologist for the U.S. Forest Service – Rocky Mountain Research Station. He is a graduate of Texas A&M University, where he holds a B.S. in Agricultural Systems Management and an M.S. in Water Management and Hydrological Science. He is also a graduate of the Texas Water Foundation’s Texas Water Leaders Program and currently serves as an officer of the Texas Alliance of Groundwater Districts. Bobby is no stranger to TGWA and has been a member for many years. He is a
regular at the Annual Convention and has participated in continuing education classes both as a host and as a presenter. He is excited to get started in his new role and immerse himself in the Texas water well industry. “I am humbled to have been hired to represent TGWA as Executive Director to begin a new adventure together," Bobby said. "I look forward to sharing my passion for groundwater by building relationships, learning what I don’t know, and teaching what I do. TGWA has shown a commitment to growing the organization and its membership, and I am glad to be a part of it." TGWA Board Member Pete Brien served on the Executive Director Hiring Committee and said, “I’ve worked with Bobby for most of the ten years that he has been with Post Oak Savannah GCD. Bobby knows the science of groundwater and has a way of working with both the well owner and the drilling contractor to achieve mitigation or whatever the job entails. I was excited when he applied for this job because I know he has the potential to lead with both his groundwater science background and his administrative/managerial experience. When you get to know him, you like him. He’s just that kind of guy, and I am glad that we’ve all teamed up to take on the future of TGWA.” Bobby will work closely with TWCA staff over the next year to learn all aspects of the association. TWCA’s Executive Director Stacey Steinbach said, “Bobby has a unique mix of experience related to groundwater science, water management, and association work that perfectly suits him for this job. He’s energetic, hardworking, and a friend to everyone. I am really looking forward to working with Bobby through this transition and seeing the Association grow and thrive under his tenure.” Bobby currently resides in Bryan. His wife, Vanessa, works in the Special Education department with College Station ISD. They share a beautiful daughter together, Ruby, who was born in February 2022. Besides spoiling their two dogs, the Bazans enjoy family time and getting together with friends. TGWA President William McPike said, "Bobby is just the right person to take the helm at TGWA, and we are thrilled to have him on board." Comments are closed.
